Nabrawind presents its full scale tower test, the first of its kind worldwide
Showcasing the innovative test at the invitation of the 5th International Wind Turbine Towers Congress in Bremen
Ion Arocena de la Rúa, Project Manager at Nabrawind and Antonio Ugarte Olarreaga, Director of Wind Power Engineering at CENER were in charge of presenting the first full scale test worldwide of a wind turbine tower in the 5th International Wind Turbine Towers Congress in Bremen (Germany) from the 31st August to the 1st of September 2016.
Tower Test Presentation by Ion Arocena
This conference -the most important in the sector-, invited Nabrawind to present due to the interest generated around the wind turbine tower project. Participants in the congress include some of the most renowned companies in the wind sector such as Vestas, Goldwind, Siemens, Gamesa, Nordex-Acciona and Mingyang, amongst others.
The project, which will be jointly developed by Nabrawind and CENER, is the first test worldwide to be carried out using a full scale real tower and will be executed using Nabrawind first self-erected tower prototype, 160m height. It will consist of a mass of 50,000 kilograms positioned at the top of the tower, mechanically excited to achieve approximately a 2 meters movement every 4 seconds. Several million cycles will be run over a period of 6 months, equivalent to the real operational loads experienced by the wind turbine during a 25 year period.
Nabrawind tower test presentation was received with great interest by those attending the congress, as demonstrated by the multitude of questions and comments from the group attending the session.
In addition to presenting this innovative project, Ricardo Savio (Nabrawind CTO) was invited to chair one of the congress sessions, “Logistical challenges for large diameters and increased hub heights”.
