Skylift in Namibia
Project Description
Nabrawind has successfully completed the installation of the first Goldwind GW165/6000 wind turbine using its Skylift system at the InnoVent Diaz wind farm in Namibia.
Key Project Features
First Commercial Validation of Skylift Technology
The project represents the first successful installation of a large-scale wind turbine using Nabrawind’s Skylift crane-less installation system under extreme wind conditions.
Crane-less Installation System
Skylift eliminates the need for large-tonnage cranes by combining Nabrawind’s proprietary Total SES and BladeRunner technologies.
Seven Goldwind GW165/6000 Wind Turbines
The Diaz wind farm will include seven Goldwind GW165/6000 direct-drive wind turbines, each with a rated power of 6 MW.
Direct-Drive Turbine Installation
The project required the development of an innovative stabilization and blade handling solution specifically designed for direct-drive wind turbines during tower erection.
Installation Under Extreme Wind Conditions
Skylift successfully operated in unstable wind conditions of up to 15 m/s with gusts reaching 20 m/s, far beyond the operating limits of conventional cranes.
Increased Installation Efficiency
The project demonstrates the system’s operational reliability and installation scalability, targeting a net installation cycle time of one turbine per week under standard operating conditions.
Contribution to Namibia’s Energy Transition
Once operational, the Diaz wind farm will generate approximately 230 GWh of clean electricity annually, supplying around 6% of Namibia’s electricity demand and avoiding approximately 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
